Stop Sale: What It Is and How to Set It Up

Stop Sale lets you block the sale of a specific room type or rate without changing the actual availability of your inventory.

When to use Stop Sale

  • Example 1 (Closing a room type): You want to close all rooms of a given type for a period. When you activate Stop Sale, sales are blocked; when you deactivate it, sales reopen with the availability you had already entered, so you don't need to set it up again.

  • Example 2 (Strategic rate management): For a certain period, you want to sell only the Non-Refundable rate and close the Standard rate. You activate Stop Sale only on the Standard rate.

How to set Stop Sale on Octorate

  1. Go to the Calendar section.
Note: If you use occupancy-based rates, make sure to apply Stop Sale to all occupancy levels of that rate.

  2. Double-click on the start date and on the row of the rate you want to block.

  3. In the window that opens, define or extend the blocking period.

  4. Go to Advanced settings > select Close sales: Yes.

  5. Click Save.

Visual note: Once Stop Sale is activated, the cell corresponding to the blocked rate will turn red on the calendar.

How to set Stop Sale from the Advanced Editor

Go to the Advanced Editor.

  1. Select the period and the room type you want to close.

  2. If you want to close a derived rate, open it starting from the parent rate: derived rates are located under the rate they depend on.

  3. Set Close sales ST: on the relevant rates (including derived rates, if necessary).

  4. Click Save.

โš ๏ธ Rules and Limitations for Channels (OTAs)

โš ๏ธ Expedia

  • Stop Sale cannot be applied to a single occupancy (e.g. closing only single use for a 2-person room).

  • However, it can be activated on rates (Standard, Non-Refundable, B&B, etc.).

โš ๏ธ Booking.com

  • To close a single occupancy level (e.g. blocking only single use in a double room), you must not use Stop Sale.

  • You need to set the price to 0 (zero) for that occupancy level. If you only activate Stop Sale, the change will not be picked up by Booking.com.

  • This rule applies to Booking.com only. To close an entire period on OTAs, see the guide Stop Sale or percentage availability per period.
