Children's Pricing: How to Choose the Configuration That Best Suits Your Needs

If you need to configure children's rates for your property, in this article we'll propose different types of configuration depending on your needs. To better understand which type of configuration might be right for you, you first need to answer the following questions:

- Do you want the results in your booking engine to have an exact match with the number of guests entered in the search? If you're interested in this option, you'll need to activate it in booking engine > general settings

Example: If you have a triple room configured only for 3 adults and a guest searches in your booking engine for 2 adults and one child, if this option is active, that guest will not find availability. If you want to activate this function, it will be necessary to create derived rates for each occupancy level.

- Do you want the results in your booking engine to also show occupancies higher than what was entered in the search? If you're interested in this option, you'll need to activate it in booking engine > general settings

Example: If you have a triple room configured only for 3 adults and a guest searches in your booking engine for 2 adults and one child, if this option is active, that guest will find availability and will be offered the rate for 3 on which the age brackets you configure will then be applied.

If you want to activate this function, you won't be asked to create derived rates, but you'll need to keep in mind that guests won't see a single rate as a result of the search in the booking engine but will also see all other rates with higher occupancy.

You'll need to choose one of these options, then you can proceed with the configuration that best suits you:

Case 1: Fixed child cost that is added to the room price for adults

If you have the option to show rooms with higher occupancy active:

It won't be necessary to create derived rates for children. The age bracket must be created in this way:

If you have the exact match Children in booking engine results option active You'll need to create derived rates for all combinations of adults and children. Each child derived rate must start from the base rate with the same number of adults.

Example:

The age bracket must be created in this way:

Case 2: Percentage child cost that is added to the room price for adults

If you have the exact match Children in booking engine results option active

You'll need to create derived rates for all combinations of adults and children. Each child derived rate must start from the base rate with the same number of adults.

Example:

The age bracket must be created in this way:

Example: by setting a child bracket with a 50% supplement, the calculation will be done this way: total room price : number of adults + 50% calculated on the cost of a single adult.

Case 3: Child price is discounted from the adult cost

If you have the option to show rooms with higher occupancy active: It won't be necessary to create derived rates for children. The bracket must be set up this way:

WARNING: It is not possible to apply discounted price brackets for children on derived rates
